Drawing reality activity for children at home and at school
We enjoyed reading about the following activity, shared by Children’s University in Colchester.
Drawing reality
In art, it is very important to practice drawing and especially drawing from real life objects.
- Collect 5 to 10 objects that mean something to you.
- Place them on a table in front of where you are going to draw them.
- Think about the arrangement of the objects.
- Are you happy with the layout?
- Using a pencil only, think about how you can use shading to create the light and dark areas on your object.

Chatta Club resources for parents and carers of primary children FREE
Chatta Club resources are currently free to download for parents and carers.
Chatta is a teaching approach which links images with language. It was developed following extensive work in hundreds of schools and with thousands of teachers and pupils. Chatta is used by teachers as a whole-class teaching resource with pupils aged 3 to 18, and also by teaching assistants as an intervention resource. Parents are central to Chatta and as well as being able to support learning with the Chatta resources they also use the Chatta app to make Chatta stories at home.
