A day of music making in our cluster

11th June was a busy day of music making for the BLC. Pegasus Opera company were working with year 6s at St John Divine Primary School, devising an opera on the theme of transition to secondary school. In the first few hours of the project, the children had already written verses for their first number about some of the things they were going to miss about primary school – including all the sports they do, the friendships they have made and…. chicken at lunchtime! They had learnt the chorus and started work on the choreography. One group wrote about their memories throughout their time at school: Miss Powell, their year 6 teacher, taught this same group of children when they were in Nursery and told me how proud she was to have seen them grow and develop. Jai and Nick, the Pegasus Opera practitioners asked for the highest standards of performance from the children – unison movement, clear words, projected voices. Looking forward to seeing the final piece. Later that afternoon, St Gabriel’s College hosting their annual Big Sing celebration – 5 cluster schools sang their hearts out expertly conducted by Karen Gibson and her team of excellent choir trainers in gospel repertoire. Congratulations to St John’s Angell Town, St John Divine, Christ Church SW9, Jessop and of course St Gabriel’s College for some wonderful performances.
We are very fortunate to have such a wealth of musically talented young people within our cluster.
