Many people are not aware that a child born in the UK to parents who are non nationals would not have automatic right to British citizenship. There are many thousands of children living in the UK in this situation, many of whom are unaware that they don’t have citizenship. The criteria to apply for citizenship is much simpler for children and young people under the age of 18 and, once they have citizenship, it can often be easier for their parents to apply.
