IT co-ordinators meet

IT co-ordinators from Archbishop Sumner, Jessop and St Saviour’s met last night for a session facilitated by London CLC, to look at ways of assessing children’s progress in the new Computing curriculum and different ways of gathering evidence. This will be the first of 3 meetings supported by CLC. The group discussed the challenge of setting assessment targets in this ever changing and progressing subject area. CLC introduced the group to Creative Commons, a way for teachers and pupils to share their work publicly for free whilst having it acknowledged. They also looked at the lgfl tools available to support class blogging and ways in which blogging can be used as a child’s e-portfolio, to give a purpose for blogging. We look forward to the next meeting when teachers will look at the Computer Science aspect of the curriculum for all groups in more depth and work together on assessment.

Loughborough Primary give their comments on their visit to Houses of Parliament on 27th September

From Suhayr, Samuel, Jayson, Tayla, Alan, Hayaat and RihannaI learnt that MPs can’t go into the House of Lords.
I was surprised we couldn’t sit on the chairs in the House of Lords or the House of Commons.
The part of the building I found most interesting was the general area with statues of famous people like Margaret Thatcher.
I learn some very interesting things: the Monarch can’t go into the House of Commons and also it is Soooo BIG!
I liked the Robing Room because there was a throne.
I found the pictures in the gallery interesting because they were detailed and the patterns on the walls were amazing.

Early Years Forum enjoys an Arty Party!

This week we had the first meeting of our Early Years Forum, hosted by Loughborough Primary School. We were delighted to welcome Ruth Malloy and Sascha Taylor from Scrapstore Tooting to lead a workshop for us. Scrapstore is a fantastic facility where for a modest membership fee you can pick up a wealth of arts, crafts and DT resources to use with children in your schools. Ruth led an excellent workshop: as a long-serving teacher in Southwark, Ruth strives to open children’s minds to endless creative possibilities. She has made a green room in the playground where children of all ages can come at break times to craft from the materials they find in this treasure trove of materials. As a group we made puppets out of empty plastic milk cartons that can live inside or outside for children to use.
