EYFS staff forum – outdoor learning

Last week staff from our schools came together for a session focussed on Outdoor Learning activities for children, led by Jules Rogers at Christ Church Primary SW9. As the light was fading outside, staff took the opportunity to go outside onto the roof garden at Christ Church and get started with a hands on activity to light a small fire with a flint and cotton wool on a sandtray – something possible for children as young as 4 or 5 to do with simple clear instruction. Staff also have the opportunity to meet the Aylesbury ducks that live there! The session went on to give staff lots of ideas of ways to get children learning outdoors in all weathers, enjoying and benefiting from the fresh air and freedom this gives everyone. The staff hope to carry on this area of training in 2015 (after the clocks change!).
