Reception writing moderation at Stockwell Primary School

On Tuesday afternoon, 10 teachers from across our cluster met to moderate writing examples from children in their Reception classes. The session was hosted by Stockwell Primary School, recently judged Outstanding in EYFS by Ofsted. The staff at Stockwell shared with the group their experience of last year’s visit by the borough lead moderator, where the team aimed to show children’s learning evidenced in their whole learning environment, not just in books or through electronic records. At our moderations, our focus is promoting professional discussion amongst teachers, celebrating and using the expertise in the room. Many thanks to all staff who attended today.

Ben Hollioake Learning Centre Awards Ceremony

Yesterday saw this year’s awards ceremony for a number of our primary children who have taken part in the cricket coaching and creative ICT programme that has taken place after school at the Ben Hollioake Learning Centre at the Oval cricket ground. This programme is generously funded by Surrey Cricket Club and the Walcot Foundation. Children from St John’s Angell Town, St Saviour’s, Christ Church Primary SW9 and Archbishop Sumner primaries have attended weekly after school sessions. They have made presentations using the software Comic Life and podcasts about the ground, including interviews with players and staff. Each week the children have also had cricket coaching from the club. Awards yesterday included categories for best podcast, best comic, best cricketer, high attenders, most improved pupil in terms of behaviour and effort and most hardworking and helpful pupil. All the children received certificates from players at the club. Thanks to everyone who made this opportunity possible and we look forward to developing more opportunities for our children at the Oval with Surrey Cricket Club.
